STABOR® LINE LOCK

 Presents Our Second Annual
National Open Buddy Crappie Tournament Results for May 1, 2004 at Truman Lake, Bucksaw Point Resort & Marina

Kids Fishing Derby: STABOR® had its 2nd annual Kids Fishing Derby May 1, in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation along the banks of Bucksaw Marina shore line. Due to the inclement weather turn out was low, but many parents showed up to make it a great event for all.  Grab bags for the children and gifts for the adults participating and entertainment from "Fat Boy" Outdoor sports announcer on KDKD Radio in Clinton entertained the children with the antics and comedic interludes kept them engaged and having fun.

We had the Surprise and Honor of having EMMY Nominee Urban American Outdoors film a segment on our Kids Fishing Derby to be broadcasted near the end of June and first week of July.  Thank you Wayne & Candice for being aware of this historical event and for having the best outdoor show in the country.  Please visit them at Urban American Outdoors or go to our jump station with no frames to www.stabor.com/uaolocation.htm

wpe37.jpg (24527 bytes)Confirmed 35 teams before the tournament started, inundated with phone calls we set out a week early to begin setting up for the second annual STABOR® National Open Buddy Crappie Tournament at Bucksaw Resort & Marina on Trumann lake Missouri.

Observing the weather report and forecast and hearing first had from the anglers pre-fishing stories about where biting; they said it looks like it's going to be extremely difficult this year to catch a limit. The crappie seem to be located from 8 ft. to 14 ft. down and not moving to the shallows for spawning. For the past week and currently facing rain, cold and 40 miles per hour winds and the Corp of Engineers report of the water level being 3' above normal and letting water out of the dam as much as 3,100 cubic gallons per minute and changing weather conditions for Friday, possibly clearing later on Saturday and temperature reaching the high of 65 degree's, would prove to be anybodies guess as to who would finish in the money.

wpe35.jpg (22867 bytes) We had 33 more teams to enter the boat division and 5 more for the bank division giving us 75 teams participating.  Far short of the anticipated 150 teams, coupled with bad weather reports and poor fishing conditions it proved to deter participation for this year.  Our National Sponsors providing $20,000 of prizes for the winners and door prizes for the teams, which proved to give the participants an edge for winning and finishing in the money of getting a good door prize.

The STABOR® National Kids Fishing Derby was a Success and had good parental support. Food Provided by Pizza Hut of Clinton Missouri and The MDOC (Missouri Department of Conservation) Aquatic education Manager Ben Russell as staff of volunteers and most of all the Emmy award nominee's for broadcasting called Urban American Outdoors, owner Wayne Hubbard and staff, filmed the derby events and interviewed the STABOR® Marketing Director for airing within the next three weeks. Stay tuned for the schedule and see a part of their festivities!

Team Having the Most Difficult Time

Occasionally we run into problems when we have a strong desire to participate in a long awaited tournament and nothing seems to go right, although the intentions are good problems arise. We had such a team to participate form Omaha Nebraska. The week before the tournament they purchased a new boat, traveling down they spent the night in Kansas and called me the next morning around 8:30am and said they were on rout 71 and will be there shortly...........well at 4:00pm they arrived and said that they had to stop every 10 miles to put water in the radiator to replace water flowing out of a bad gasket. Can you imagine that king of experience! Only to go pre-fishing and fall in the cold water and short out your cell phone! Not find any crappie long enough to place in the live well and not be able to haul your boat!
We awarded and will do so next year a hardest luck team for a prize! and this years recipient team for a
