We are Proud to present an
organization called,
"Make Promises Happen".
It is the nation's largest program offering camping and
outdoor recreational opportunities to persons with disabilities and serious
illnesses. Make Promises Happen is a program of Central Christian Camp and Conference
Center, located S.E. of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Their Motto: Changing Lives One Camp At A Time. (Click on thumbnails to enlarge)
At
Make Promises Happen we believe that the outdoor recreation and learning
should be available to all persons. We are making that promise a reality
through over 35 Make Promises Happen events each year. Since 1972 we have
been able to offer camp and retreat experiences to almost 30,000 people who
otherwise couldn't have participated.
One
of the many source's of making promises happen is Emerson's Crystal Lake
Fisheries of Ava, Missouri. They supply trout for the fish tanks in different
boat and tackle shows for Make Promises Happen. Established in 1951 by
Dwight and Mary Alice, the family business which culminates over four generations
has expanded the operations business to better serve you. Their office &
hatchery phone number is 417-683-2301, ask to speak with David Emerson or Marvin
Emerson.
The
goal of Make Promises Happen during Boat & Tackle shows is to raise funds to
provide scholarships for persons with disabilities to attend the camp. For
a a donation of $3.00 each, 33 fisherman will send 1 (one) disabled youth or
adult to one of the 35 events held by Make Promises Happen this year.
During the 2000 Boat & RV Show (OKC Fairgrounds), volunteers and fisherman
raised enough funds to send 47 individuals to camp! In addition, during
the Oklahoma City Tackle Show held Feb. 17-20, funds raised to send 74 more
individuals to camp. This summer, Make Promises Happen will be serving its
30,000th camper! Thank you for helping us reach our goal to
celebrate. If you know of any youth or adult with
disabilities who would benefit from outdoor recreation or anyone who would like to
volunteer or support us with financial gifts, please call the camp at 405-282-2811 or
1-800-299-2811, Ask to speak with James Wheeler (administrative assistant).
STABOR®
Sporting Goods assist's M.P.H. in supplying terminal tackle called STABOR®
line locks. As Quoted by James Wheeler, "It makes easy for those who don't
have the fine motor skills to tie the knot to hook it on their line which a lot
of our campers don't have the fine motor skills".
One comical events which took place at the Trout Tank, was the 1/2" line
lock which is being used to assist James attaching the flies to the line
instead of tying knots, a peculiar thing happened. James stated that,
" Whenever you dropped the line into the water the trout were not only
hitting the hook, they were hitting the STABOR® and it
seemed to attract them a lot more, its a little more shinny."
Letter from a Fan:
Dear
STABOR®, We recently went to the "Fish and Tackle" show at the
Fairgrounds, and was introduced to your
STABOR® product. We have 2 boys (9 and
5), who we have raised fishing a-lot in farm ponds. Changing their hooks
to lures to spinners, then back to plastic worm, left less time for my husband
and I to fish. I prayed for the day they could tie their own fishing lures and
baits. Then came STABOR®! The boys had no problem learning to use them and could
change lures as often as they liked. Honestly, I was not convinced at first! We
have big catfish out there. I questioned the durability. I also questioned
change of action in my lures, I'm mainly a lure fisherperson. Well, we've been
using STABOR® a couple of months now, and I'm hooked! Our 9 year old caught a 6½
LB catfish using STABOR® so its proved its durability. I've tried all my favorite
lures, no difference - STABOR® works Great!
SINCERELY,
KAREN B.
